"There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action.

It is not your business to determine how good it is, nor how valuable, or how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to stay open and aware to the urges that motivate you."

The Best Explanation Yet!

Just as often as I get asked about homeschooling, I also get asked, "What is the Bahá'í Faith?"  Today I came across the most concise and all-encompassing quote I've seen in answer to that question.  Even after being a member of the Bahá'í Faith now for over 11 years, this is the first time I've seen this explanation.  This just goes to show how vast the Bahá'í Writings are.  People often ask what the Faith's main Holy Book is a.... more >>

Why Fast?

Posted on Saturday, March 21, 2009 — Listed under
As of yesterday, the 19-day Bahá'í Fast ended and the Bahá'í New Year (Naw Ruz) as well as the first day of Spring coincidingly began.

In retrospect, I thought I would share a little bit about the benefits of the Fast since many who have never fasted often wonder why anyone would fast in the first place.  Of course fasting has been and continues to be a part of many religions and philosophies, however, when I began observing the Fast as a member of the Bahá'í Faith about 5 years ago, I can't say that I could.... more >>

It's a Human Rights Issue

Some background:  I am a member of the Bahá'í faith, an independent world religion that began in the mid-1800s in Iran.  Bahá'ís believe that there is only one God and therefore only one religion.  All of the world's divine teachers (Abraham, Krishna, Moses, Zoroaster, Buddha, Jesus, Muhammad, etc.) bring essentially the same message - one of unity, love and knowledge of God or the divine.

Bahá'ís believe this constantly updated faith of God has .... more >>

Baha'is and Christmas

I would have entitled this entry "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know (and More) About Baha'is and Christmas But Were Afraid to Ask", but I don't have room for such a long title, so my short title will have to do.

The observance of Christmas can be many different things to many different people, depending on who you speak with. For some it is a celebration of Jesus Christ's birth, for others it is a season of giving and spending time with family, having very little to d.... more >>

The Brain/Heart Connection

I had the privilege of hearing Joseph Chilton Pearce speak at a recent Rethinking Education Conference where he talked about the brain/heart connection.  As he spoke, I could not help but see the beauty of the harmony of science and religion from a Baha'i perspective come to li.... more >>

Ideals/Expectations Book 5

Posted on Sunday, September 28, 2008 — Listed under
Our second class of Releasing the Powers of Junior Youth, Book 5, began with prayers followed by the sharing of pictures of ourselves from the Junior High years.  I had asked each class participant to be prepared to share an ideal they had during that time in their life.  This was an optional assignment, but it proved to be very valuable before we went forward with the the study book.

The activity helped us remember our fears, hopes and wishes between the ages of 11-14.  Some felt fear at that time in their life for themselves and their family.... more >>

Breaking the Ice with Book 5

As I tutor this class, I'm going to document the activities I do with the class as well as any other helpful tips and experiences I encounter so that others who tutor it can use what they like or get ideas for their class.

We started the first class with a game called 'Put A Penny In' as an icebreaker.  This is a baby shower game I learned that can be used for just about any setting.  You give each person about 25 pennies and place a bowl, hat or other container in the center of the room.  Then you proceed with various di.... more >>

Well, tonight we started Book 5 of the Ruhi sequence of courses entitled Releasing the Powers of Junior Youth.  This book trains individuals to facilitate Junior Youth Groups, which are for ages 11-14.  Although inspired by and taken from the guidance of the Bah Writings, these Junior Youth Groups are for the youth of the world.

I was invited to tutor this book, which is such a bounty!  I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!  I think out of all 7 books in the sequence, this is my favorite so far (Ive only got book 6 left to take).  It reall.... more >>
